Day 13 — Dasamsha (D10) for Career, Plus D7, D12, D60

D10 is the career chart — read it for vocation, work, public reputation. D7 covers children, D12 parents, D60 past-life karma. Each adds specific life-area precision to D1 reading.

Lesson

Day thirteen: the other key divisional charts beyond D9. After mastering D9, the next most-important is D10 (Dasamsha) for career. D7, D12, and D60 cover specialized areas.

Dasamsha (D10) — Career and Public Life. Subdivides each rashi into 10 segments of 3° each. Read for: vocation (what you're meant to do, beyond mere employment), professional success, public reputation, the quality of your career karma. The 10th house of D10 is your career-of-careers — what you're building professionally at the deepest level. The 10th lord of D10 and its placement reveals career trajectory. Strong planets in D10 = strong career capacity in those domains.

Most serious career questions need D10. "What career suits me?" — read D10's 10th lord, the planet most strongly placed in D10, the 10th house of D10. "When will my career shift?" — combine D10 placements with current dasha analysis. "Will this business succeed?" — read D10 alongside Muhurta timing. D10 is the working chart for career-focused practice.

Saptamsha (D7) — Children. Subdivides each rashi into 7 segments of ~4°17' each. Read for: number of children, their qualities, the parent-child relationship karma, fertility. The 5th house of D7 (5th from D7 Lagna) shows children specifically. Combined with D1 fifth house, gives complete fertility/children picture.

Dwadashamsha (D12) — Parents. Subdivides each rashi into 12 segments of 2°30' each. Read for: parents' qualities, your relationship with parents, ancestral patterns, parental karma. The 4th house of D12 covers mother specifically; the 9th house covers father.

Shashtiamsha (D60) — Past-Life Karma. Subdivides each rashi into 60 segments of 30' each. The most refined divisional chart — extremely sensitive to birth time accuracy. Reads for: past-life karmic patterns being addressed in this lifetime, the deepest layer of who you are. Considered the most important varga by some traditional astrologers; D60 placements are the karmic substrate beneath everything else.

Other vargas worth knowing: D2 (Hora) for wealth and material flow. D3 (Drekkana) for siblings. D16 (Shodasamsha) for vehicles and comforts. D24 (Chaturvimsamsha) for learning and education. D30 (Trimsamsha) for health challenges and remedies.

For today: generate your D10. Read it the way we read D1 — Lagna, planet placements, 10th house and its lord. Compare D10 themes to your actual career. Often the alignment is striking; D10 reveals career patterns that D1 alone doesn't fully predict.

Today's exercise

Generate your D10. Note: D10 Lagna, D10 10th house and its lord, planets in D10 by sign placement. Compare to your actual career trajectory. Optionally: generate D7 if children questions matter to you, D12 if parental themes are significant, D60 if past-life work calls.

Key takeaways

  • D10 (Dasamsha) is the career chart — essential for vocation analysis.
  • D7 (Saptamsha) covers children and fertility.
  • D12 (Dwadashamsha) covers parents and ancestral karma.
  • D60 (Shashtiamsha) covers past-life karmic patterns.
  • Each varga's specific division is calculated; software does it automatically.

FAQ

Why use D10 instead of just D1's 10th house?

D1's 10th house shows surface career structure; D10 shows the deeper career karma. Many people have weak D1 10th houses but strong D10 placements (slow career start but substantial eventual accomplishment) or vice versa (early surface success that doesn't sustain). D10 is the depth-reading for career questions.

Is D60 really that important?

Some traditions consider it the most important varga because it addresses past-life karmic patterns. The challenge: D60 is extremely birth-time sensitive (30' segments mean small time errors produce different signs). Use D60 when birth time is genuinely accurate; otherwise its precision exceeds its reliability.

How do I read D7 for children questions?

Read the 5th house of D7 (counting from D7's Lagna), the 5th lord of D7, planets in D7's 5th house. Combine with D1's 5th house and 5th lord. Beneficial planets in D7's 5th house indicate easier children karma; difficult placements indicate fertility challenges or complex parent-child dynamics.

Should I generate all 16 vargas?

For most working practice, no. D1 + D9 + D10 covers most questions. Add D7, D12, D60 as specific questions arise. Generating all 16 produces information overload; selective use of relevant vargas produces useful readings.

What if my D1 and D10 strongly disagree about career?

Common situation. D1 shows surface career structure (what's visible in your work life now); D10 shows deeper career karma (what your professional life is actually building toward). Disagreement often resolves over time as D10 themes emerge. Sometimes the disagreement points to vocational restlessness — surface work doesn't match deeper calling. Honest reading of both reveals the work to be done.
