Technique
Breathing portion (cold-exposure component handled separately):
1. Sit or lie down comfortably.
2. Take 30 deep forceful breaths — full inhale through nose or mouth, full exhale through mouth. Pace: about 1 breath per 2-3 seconds. The breathing is forceful but not extreme.
3. After the 30th breath, exhale fully and hold the breath out (bahya kumbhaka) for as long as comfortable — typically 60-90 seconds for beginners, longer for established practitioners.
4. When the urge to breathe is strong, take one full inhale and hold for 15 seconds.
5. Exhale and breathe normally.
6. That's one round. Complete 3 rounds total per session.
7. After the session, return to normal breathing and rest for several minutes.
When to use
(1) Morning practice. Best done in morning; the energizing effect doesn't suit evening.
(2) Cold exposure preparation. Many practitioners use Wim Hof breathing before cold showers or ice baths to prepare the system.
