How a practitioner reads it

One or more planets (excluding the Sun) sit in the 2nd house from the natal Moon. The yoga's strength scales with the dignity of the planet involved — Jupiter or Venus produces the strongest Sunapha; a weak Mercury produces a milder version.

What the sunapha yoga is doing

Sunapha is the simplest of the lunar relational yogas: a planet in the 2nd from the Moon. The classical reading is a person who earns through their own effort, has unusual articulation about money or values, and accumulates wealth gradually rather than through luck.

The flavour of Sunapha depends on which planet sits in the 2nd. Jupiter Sunapha tends toward wealth through teaching, advisory work, or dharmic enterprise. Mars Sunapha leans toward self-earned wealth through entrepreneurial or athletic effort. Saturn Sunapha produces wealth through long disciplines. Mercury Sunapha through commerce and writing.

The classical sources are clear that Sunapha is a 'self-made' yoga in the literal sense: the wealth and articulation belong to the person, not to inheritance, marriage, or luck. The 2nd house is the house of speech, family wealth, and accumulated values; the Moon is the chart's emotional centre. The yoga describes a chart whose felt sense of value generates real-world value.

When it works

When the planet in the 2nd from the Moon is well-placed in the rasi chart and aspected by benefics, Sunapha tends to produce careers built on the person's own capability — small businesses, writing careers, teaching practices, craftwork — that compound over time.

When it’s blunted

Malefic-only Sunapha (Mars + Saturn alone in the 2nd from Moon, with no benefic involvement) can produce the same self-made arc but with significant friction. The yoga still operates; the cost is higher.
